ABOUT THE ORBIT 

ORBIT: Destiny’s Acro Convention is designed to bring elite-level training to northern acrobats, offering a high-impact, skill-focused experience for competitive dancers looking to elevate their acro abilities. Whether you’re refining technique or mastering new tricks, this convention is the ultimate summer training ground.

Led by top-tier coaches, each class is structured to challenge and support acrobats based on their age and skill level. Expect hands-on spotting, expert feedback, and an encouraging environment as you train in tumbling, variations, trending tricks, partnering, and more.

At ORBIT, we focus on progression, confidence, and unlocking new potential. Get ready to train hard, push boundaries, and take your acro skills to the next level!

PRICE: $135 + HST (PLUS TRANSACTION FEE).

OBSERVER PASSES: Observer passes will be available to purchase at the door. 1 per dancer. We accept debit, credit or cash.

SKILLS & SAFETY

To ensure a safe and positive training experience for all participants, acrobats must meet the minimum skill requirements for their age group. These skills are necessary to maintain personal safety and prevent injury to others in the class.

If you exceed these minimums, this convention will challenge you with new variations, advanced tricks, and expert coaching.

 Eligibility:

  • Must be a competitive-level dancer with at least 2+ years of acrobatics training at your studio.

  • Must have experience taking tumbling classes.

 Class Experience & Safety:

  • Our coaches will spot skills when appropriate to maximize safety and learning.

  • Class sizes are limited to ensure quality instruction for all acrobats.

  • While our coaches are highly experienced and reputable, all dancers must train within their limits.

AGE GROUPS & SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • ORBIT 1: 7-10 YEARS

    MINIMUM SKILL REQUIREMENT:

    1. Backbend from standing

    2. Cartwheel (both sides preferred)

    3. Handstand (against a wall or freestanding attempt)

  • ORBIT 2: 11-13 YEARS

    MINIMUM SKILL REQUIREMENT:

    1. Cartwheel (both sides preferred)

    2. Handstand (brief freestanding hold)

    3. Front and back walkover

  • ORBIT 3: AGES 14-18 YEARS

    MINIMUM SKILL REQUIREMENT:

    1. Cartwheel (both sides)

    2. Handstand (freestanding with control)

    3. Front and back walkovers, limbers

    4. Experience in tumbling class (exposure to aerial progressions, back handsprings, or advanced skills is an asset)

Due to low interest and registration for Orbit 3: Ages 14+, we have decided to cancel this age group. If your dancer is over 14, they are still most welcome to join the Orbit 2 group. We look forward to pushing dancers to new heights!

FACULTY

ONLY THE BEST TO LEAD ACROBATS INTO THE ORBIT.

  • Kim is an accomplished, award winning teacher and choreographer. She  has shared her love and knowledge of dance with students across North  America, through workshops, choreography, adjudicating and  examining. She has passed on her knowledge of acrobatics through her  work in various acrobatic workshops and master syllabi. Currently, she is  working on several different acro specific faculties.  

    Kim is proud to be a former member of the singing group “She Said”  based in Cleveland Ohio. She was also honoured to be the recipient of many awards during her dance journey.  

    Her choreography has been recognized internationally. She is fortunate  to be working with dancers across Canada, choreographing work for  international competitions.  

    Kim is a certified teacher in multiple acro, jazz and tap syllabi. She has  been given the opportunity to adjudicate for many well-known  organizations across Canada and the United States. She is currently  working as an examiner for the Artistic Dance Educators Syllabus which  helps students enhance their development as technical dancers.  

    Kim’s love of dance is illustrated through her teaching, she is proud to  see many of her students go onto professional careers across the world.  She has students performing now on Broadway, television and as well  as in Ballet Companies world-wide.  

    It is with great pleasure that Kim is sharing her love of dance and  knowledge with many young students. 

  • Katelyn Ettinger, a Nova Scotia native, began her gymnastics and dance journey at a young age, quickly advancing to competitive levels. Transitioning from a competitive gymnast to a dancer, she soon excelled in various dance genres. Her choreography has graced stages globally, from Canada to Disney's The Dance Worlds. Katelyn's move to Toronto broadened her collaborations, notably with Juno-nominated Marlowe & The MiX, and platforms like WE Day. As a sought-after educator, she has taught across North America, boasting certifications in Gymnastics, Acro Dance, and Flexibility. In 2019, Katelyn co-founded CTRL Acrobatics, cementing her vision of nurturing dancers towards a professional acrobatic career, enhanced by her signature coaching technique.
